2Nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Help Brake Pedal Goes Right To The Floor

I didn't have time to fix it, so I paid $450. The brakes are much better, they must have weakened over time because now they stop in the blink of an eye.

Hydroboost Pedal Feel - Should It Feel This Spongy

I've read all the previous posts about hydroboost and spongy pedals, but I just can't get mine to feel the way I think it should. Also, I noticed that with the truck off, the pedal still feels spongy with a lot of travel - shouldn't it feel like hand brakes with the engine off? All brake lines are new, front calipers are new (ebay disc brake kit) and rear wheel cylinders are new. I bled the MC bench 3 times, manually bled the brakes 4 times, and even bought the pump type pressure bleeder and bled them an additional 4 times with it.

Brake Pedal Goes To Floor When Engine Not Running

Ok, I'm not a hydro boost expert, but it helps. That said, if the pedal goes to the floor, you most likely have air or a bad MC. AKA fixes the low pedal and then sees if there is still a steering problem.

Bad Hydroboost Or Master Cylinder?

Most of the time when I drive my truck for about a mile, when I go to press my brakes, the brake pedal will go all the way to the floor. It doesn't feel completely flat like the brakes do if a line has been blown out. Also once the pedal is on the floor I can pump the brakes a few times and they will be back to normal again...for the next mile lol. I also have to say that I think the brake pedal has been pushed further than it should, even when it works "properly". There is however a drop of fluid on the bleed hole between the hydroboost and the master cylinder, but it's been there forever... I did this by opening all the caliper bleed screws and letting them drip for about 5 mins or so while refilling the brake resistor turned off with new fluid when it got very low.

Hydroboost System Bleed Instructions

After installing a steering box or pump in a vehicle with a hydraulic brake system, you may discover strange problems after bleeding the system in the normal way. During this process, it is important that the liquid level in the pump remains above the pump casting so as not to introduce more air into the system.

But first, let's take a look at what the brake booster is and does:

What the brake booster does

When you step on the brake pedal, the brake booster amplifies that force, conducting it to the brake master cylinder and brake calipers. Although it is not the only amplifying factor at work in the entire braking system, the brake booster plays a vital role in allowing you to press the brake pedal more easily. Since the vacuum brake booster is the most widely used type, here is a brief description of what goes into a vacuum brake booster:

The booster has two chambers separated by a disc-shaped diaphragm. Now that you know what brake boosters are and how they work, let's review what happens when something goes wrong:

How to identify a faulty brake booster

Here are some common signs of a failing brake booster:

1. With a faulty brake booster, you will likely lose all the power assistance you normally would have, resulting in a stiff brake pedal that is hard to press. Reduced motor function

A puncture in the brake booster diaphragm introduces a vacuum leak that can suck air into the induction system, affecting your engine's fuel mixture. If you're experiencing any of these faulty booster symptoms, it's always a good idea to take your car to a mechanic, as you'll likely need a brake booster replacement. Without a brake booster, you would have to press the brake pedal hard enough to slow down even a little.
